Drury de Toppenish wins national Greco-Roman title | PREPARATION BLOG

FARGO, ND – Haiden Drury made the giant leap from state wrestling champion to national champion on Thursday.

Heading into his junior year at Toppenish this fall, Drury topped the 120-pound category at the Greco-Roman National Cadet Tournament at the Fargodome at North Dakota State University.

Drury was 6-0 with four technical falls, including a 10-0 win over John Wiley of Oklahoma in Thursday’s final.

Drury, 16, has had a busy year after winning the Class 2A State Title for the Wildcats at 120 pounds. He won the state cadet freestyle and Greco-Roman titles and won the junior state title in Greco-Roman.

Drury’s national title helped Washington to finish second on the team as a Greco-Roman caddy.

Earlier in the six-seed Fargo Nationals, four Yakima-area girls helped Washington place second in the junior women’s freestyle.

Davis graduate Cameron Guerin was 4-1 at 122 pounds and placed third, falling to eventual champion Alexys Zepeda of Oregon in the semifinals. She bounced back with a 32-second pin in the final for third place.

The other local placers were Kaylee Moore of Naches Valley (fourth with 127), Lourdes Torres of Sunnyside (sixth with 152) and Maria Reyes of Grandview (seventh with 106).
