Pakistani premier fighter Muhammad Inam Butt won a gold medal in the senior 90kg freestyle at the 2018 World Beach Wrestling Championships.
The first wrestling event took place in Sarigerme, Turkey, from 06 to 07 October 2018.
The Gujranwala wrestler who was returning from an injury defeated Georgia’s Irakli Mtsituri 3-1 in the final on October 07, 2018.
In the sandy campaign to defend his 2017 title, the Pakistani wrestler beat many international players.
The 29-year-old began his quest for gold with a 4-0 victory over Norway’s Bo Andre Nergan in the first round.
In the second round, he beat Portugal’s Adao Rafael Andrade Da Silva 4-0. Butt then shut out Romanian Mihai Nicolae Palaghia 4-0 in the third round.
He further strengthened his authority by winning 3-1 in the quarter-finals over Ukraine’s Victor Soloviov.
He reached the final with a convincing 4-0 victory over Greece’s Grigorios Kriaridis. In 03:59, Inam clinched gold after beating Georgian Irakli Mtsituri 3-1 to retain his title.
His father and trainer Lala Muhammad Safdar Butt embraced his beloved son after winning the final, shedding tears of joy.
Butt also posted a message on Facebook grateful to his father for supporting him, saying:
“Today, all I am is because of my respected father. Thanks for being here with me Lala Safdar Butt.
Syed Aqil Shah, President of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) congratulated the wrestling hero for accomplishing this incredible feat for the country.
PWF Secretary Mohammad Arshad Sattar said:
“The PWF leadership has made every effort to promote wrestling and Inam’s gold medal performance is the result of years of dedication and visionary planning by the leadership of the federation under the chairmanship of Syed Aqil Shah. “
After winning gold for Pakistan, Butt produced a video message, dedicating his medal to Pakistan and the children in his Akhara (club) who are working exceptionally hard to prepare the ring. He said:
“Once again, I made my riding proud. For Pakistan, I won the title of world champion again.
“I dedicate this medal [gold] to the children of my club who advise us.
“There are no basic facilities in our ring in Gujranwala, but the young wrestlers work hard every day, which is why I dedicate this medal to them.”
Inam called on the Pakistani government to create an academy in Gujranwala to facilitate and develop young wrestlers.

The Commonwealth Games 2018 (Freestyle 86kg) and 2010 (Freestyle 84kg) gold medalist has previously expressed his opinion on the inadequate facilities and training provided to wrestlers in Pakistan.
Hopefully through his achievement Pakistan Wrestling Foundation, Pakistan Sports Board and government will further contribute to the development of the sport.
In addition to being a two-time Commonwealth Games champion, Inam Butt won gold in the 86 kg freestyle competition at the 2016 Asian Games in Guwahati, India.
During this time, it was important for Inam to win in Turkey, especially with the Olympic Games qualifiers starting in 2019. The 2019 South Asian Games are also being held in Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal.
Inam Butt will arrive in Pakistan on October 9, 2018. He will receive a hero’s welcome at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore, followed by an enthusiastic reception in his hometown of Gujranwala.
