Greco-Roman and Women’s Freestyle Champions crowned in Last Chance World Team Qualifier

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ — The champions were determined in Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle wrestling on the first day of qualifying for the Last Chance World Team Trials on Friday.

At this event, the rules state that “the highest-ranked U.S. athlete by weight class winning a medal who has not yet qualified will earn a spot in the 2022 World Team Trials Challenge tournament.”

Spartan Combat RTC’s Jessy Williams, who finished second at the 2018 US Open, won the 67kg Greco-Roman weight class, with a two-match best-of-three series sweep against Logan Hatch, 7-0 and 6-0.

At 55kg, Jonathan Gurule of the NMU-National Training Center won a four-man round robin with a 3-0 record. Gurule finished third in the 2022 US Open.

New Jersey’s Chad Walsh, who was a college star for Rider, won the 77kg weight class, including a 48-second pin in the final against Terrance Parks of New York.

The champion at 82kg was Elite Wrestling Academy‘s Adrian Artsisheuskiy, who scored a technical pinfall over NMU-National Training Center’s Aaron Dobbs, 8-0 in the final. Artsisheuskiy finished second in the 2022 U20 Greco-Roman National Championships.

Other individual Greco-Roman champions were Garrett Totten of New Jersey (60 kg), Diego Romero of Florida (63 kg), Noah Wachsmuth of Colorado (72 kg), Gevorg Arakelov of New York (87 kg), Timothy Eubanks of Nevada (97 kg) and Tom Foote of the New York Athletic Club (130 kg).

In women’s freestyle, the 50 kg weight class had the most entries. U23 Nationals champion and wrestler par excellence Nyla Valencia of California won a four-man round robin with three technical falls. Valencia defeated another of the nation’s top-ranked high school wrestlers, Alexandra Szkotnicki of Maryland’s HeadHunters WC, 10-0, with Szkotnicki taking second place.

King’s University stars Ana Luciano de King (68kg) and Montana Delawder (59kg) won their weights, as did Augsburg wrestlers Sierra Bron Ton (65kg) and Melissa Jacobs (76kg) Alexandria Liles of the United States Army, who was eighth at the US Open, qualified in 62 kg. The other female champions were Janieliz Cotto (Krazy Monkey Wrestling Club at 53 kg), Torieonna Buchanan (Red Cobra Wrestling Academy at 55 kg), Genesis Ramirez (All Navy Wrestling at 57 kg) and Skie Roulo (Cougar Wrestling Club at 72 kg) .
