Haryana announces Rs. 1 crore award for freestyle wrestling

In perhaps the biggest reward in the game, the Government of Haryana On Friday, announced that the top wrestler in a freestyle wrestling competition to be held in the state will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1 crore.

“With a view to commemorating the memory of the great martyrs, namely Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, a national level freestyle ‘Bharat Kesri Kushti Dangal’ with the highest ever cash prizes of Rs. 1 crore, Rs. . 50 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh is being organized, “Haryana Sports and Youth Minister Anil Vij said.

The wrestling championship will take place at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon from March 21 to 23.

“This would be the first time in the history of Haryana that such a nationwide event would be held in the state. This event would be an annual event,” said Vij.

He said the tournament final would take place on the day of Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom on March 23.

“The wrestler securing the first position would be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1 crore. The first runner-up would get a cash prize of Rs. 50 lakh and the second runner-up would receive Rs. 25 lakh. All participants would get cash prize of Rs. 50 lakh. incentive money, ”the Minister said.

The minimum age of participating wrestlers must be 17 years and over (as of January 1, 2016), with a body weight of 80 kg or more. Only wrestlers who have won medals in national or international competitions in the free and Greco-Roman categories during the last three years will be allowed to participate.

Vij said wrestlers participating in the event will include wrestlers Haryana Kesri and Hind Kesri recognized by the Indian Wrestling Federation, wrestlers from all-state state level wrestling competitions, winners of National Games and army sports competitions, service sports events, rail sports competitions, All Indian inter-university sports competitions and outstanding grapplers from various state police forces.
