Saucon Valley’s Scrivanich tops seedings at U16 Greco-Roman Nationals

Liam Scrivanich was catapulted onto the national wrestling scene on Thursday afternoon.

The rising Saucon Valley junior won the Greco-Roman 160-pound championship at the 2021 US Marine Corps U16 Boys National Championships (formerly Cadets) at the Fargodome in Fargo, ND

Scrivanich defeated Minnesota’s Jed Wester 11-4 in the final. Wester entered the final after winning five bouts by a combined 44-0, making Scrivanich the first athlete to score against him in the tournament.

Scrivanich won his semi-final 10-3 over Florida’s Roman Garcia. In its six tournament wins, the Panther has a combined 66-16 record.

In his sophomore school season, Scrivanich went 15-8, finishing second in the District 11 2A championship and fourth in the Southeast Regional.

The lehighvalleylive area had three other All-Americans in the tournament.

At 100 pounds, Northampton rookie Trey Wagner finished second after a 13-0 loss to Utah’s Layne Kleimann in the final.

Bethlehem Catholic frosh Nathan Desmond was sixth at 106 pounds, and rising Parkland junior Adrian Gacek took eighth at 182 pounds.
