SOU mourns the loss of 23-year-old Raider wrestler Hunter Roberson
ASHLAND, Oregon – The Southern Oregon University athletic community mourns Monday after the loss of Hunter Roberson, 23, a member of the Raider men’s wrestling team.
According to SOU Men’s Wrestling, Roberson died unexpectedly on Sunday morning, and the cause of his death is still under investigation.
“We are heartbroken to learn that student-athlete Hunter Roberson passed away early Sunday morning,” SOU athletic director Matt Sayre said. “Our hearts go out to his family, friends, teammates and coaches. Hunter was a senior member of our wrestling team and a positive and energetic presence for our program. He will miss SOU and Raider Athletics dearly and be grateful for the time. that he spent with us. We urge the Raider community to keep Hunter and his family in your thoughts. “
Roberson came to SOU from Vista, Calif. After graduating from Rancho Buena Vista High in 2017. The men’s wrestling program said Roberson primarily wrestled at 149 pounds for the Raiders and was looking forward to returning for a fifth season. during the coming school year. while working on a degree in health and physical education.
SOU said details of a memorial for Roberson will be shared when finalized.
