Toyam Industries names wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat to its advisory board

After hosting the legendary Mike Tyson for the launch of the Kumite-1 League in India and signing The Great Khali to its advisory board, Toyam Industries Ltd. (TIL) is pleased to announce the signing of Wrestling Guru Mahavir Singh Phogat to its Advisory Board. Mahavir Singh Phogat is a Senior Olympic Coach and Amateur Wrestler.

Phogat’s training efforts in the combat sports industry were duly recognized when her daughter Geeta Phogat not only helped India win the 1st Women’s Wrestling Gold Medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games , but also qualified as India’s only female wrestler for the Olympics.

Likewise, her training helped her other daughter, Babita Phogat, win a bronze medal at the 2012 World Wrestling Championships.

Such achievements have even inspired renowned filmmakers like Amir Khan, who produced a hit and award-winning film called “Dangal” based on Phogat’s life journey and contribution to wrestling and made the sport super popular not only in India but worldwide. TIL, synonymous with Kumite-1 League (K-1L) in India, aspires to revolutionize and popularize the business of combat sports in India, especially Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

TIL had made their mark and created a huge buzz in the MMA circuit, both in India and around the world, after hosting the legendary Mike Tyson at the launch of the Kumite-1 League (K-1L) in Mumbai. The K-1L was formed not only to popularize the sport in India, but also to tap into the country’s vast untapped potential.

Commenting on the development, Mohamedali Budhwani (CMD – TIL) said “Mr. Phogat accepting our invitation to be part of our advisory board endorses our vision. With such outstanding personalities (Phogat, The Great Khali), who have made the country marks its presence in the combat sports industry, by being part of our board of directors, not only will we be able to establish benchmarks in the industry for MMA, but we will also act as a catalyst in our efforts to popularize the sport.

TIL would benefit immensely from their vast experience and outstanding presence in the world of combat sports.

Our aspiration to form an advisory board, made up of eminent sports personalities like these, is now taking shape. Like Mr Phogat and The Great Khali, we have identified several industry icons and are in talks with some of them.

Athletes participating in our soon to be launched reality show, “Warrior Hunt”, will benefit immensely from the guidance of these seasoned personalities. We have the ambition to develop the complete MMA ecosystem and mark India’s presence in the global circuit,” Budhwani said.

Accepting the invitation, Mahavir Singh Phogat said, “I am proud to be associated with TIL and the movement they have started to popularize this sport in India. connect with the sport in times to come. I stand ready to support and provide any guidance that may be needed to do so. MMA is very popular around the world and if our efforts are directed in the right way, I see no reason why this sport might not be as popular as some other sports (e.g. cricket) in India Having successfully trained Ritu Phogat to compete on global MMA platforms, I am well versed in the strategies needed to prepare other athletes as well. I am well aware of the dedication and training involved in the process. I am grateful to Budhwani for choosing me to be on the panel. I wholeheartedly support his vision and I I am prepared to devote all the time and effort necessary to do so, including initiating beaurocratic discussions as and when required.”
