Uxbridge wrestler Cruz Lewis is Durham Region’s first individual gold medalist at the Canada Summer Games in Niagara, winning gold in the 60kg weight category.

Sixteen-year-old Lewis, who fights out of the Forge Club in Mississauga, beat Saskatchewan’s Donovan Neudorf by “technical superiority” in Thursday’s gold medal match after winning seven grueling bouts to get there.

Lewis also won a gold medal in the team event with Team Ontario.
