PHOTO PROVIDED Jersey Shore freshman Brock Weiss finished second at the U15 Greco-Roman World Team Trials in Wisconsin in late April.

Brock Weiss of Jersey Shore was the national runner-up at the U15 Greco-Roman Wrestling World Team Trials April 23-25.

Just a week after his 15th birthday, the Jersey Shore freshman traveled to Wisconsin to compete in the UWW Cadet, U15 and Futures Nationals. He wrestled for the M2 Training Center which is coached by David Taylor and Mark McKnight.

In the first round, Weiss won, 13-9, against MWC Wrestling Academy‘s Brayden Canoyer.

Weiss advanced into the quarterfinals with a tough back-and-forth battle ending in a 6-6 criteria decision over Aaron Stewart of Illinois.

Entering the semifinals, Weiss advanced with an 8-3 win over Angel Serrano, Colorado, earning a spot in the Greco-Roman National Final at 52 kilograms (114.4 pounds) where he would face Jackson Heslin of the club. Poway Elite wrestling in California. Weiss’ world team aspirations fell through in best-of-three matches where he lost back-to-back games, 8-0 and 10-0.

Weiss was the 2021 Big 7 Champion, 2021 District 4 Class AA North Section Champion, 2021 District 4 Class AA Runner-up, 2021 Northeast Class AA Regional Runner-up, and State Qualifier of the 2021 Class AA. He went 31-6 at 106 pounds in his debut campaign.

He is one of only three freshman Bulldogs to qualify for the state tournament along with teammate Hayden Packer (2020) and Hayden’s father, Mike Packer (1978).
